Yeah it's Friday!!

Friday, August 31, 2012

Happy Friday night everyone!  I’m so glad this week is over.  It was a pretty tough one for me.  Being back at work has brought many challenges.  Luckily, KC is home being Mr. Dad.    It is so much easier to leave them knowing their at home.  I would be a nervous rec if Lachlyn had to go to day care at 2.5 mo old.  It's also great knowing that she is on the exact schedule I am so we can time our feedings together.  And of course being able to call KC anytime I need to to find out how everyone is doing is a great perk.  It's also super fun now that when I get home Rhone gets so excited and gives me lots of xoxoxoxo.  He then proceeds to tell me everything that happened.  Lachlyn even lights up when I get home.  It’s the best feeling!! Her smiles and cuddles make it all worth it.  Then of course I try not to forget about KC.  He gets excited when I get home too hahaha.

It was funny the other day I had to ask him, when the last time he showered was?  He said it’s been a couple of days.  He is officially a typical busy stay at home dad.  I told him everyday now, when I get home, I get the kids and he needs to get away and have some time to him self to ‘pamper himself and unwind’.

We also started a game with Rhone where we have ‘times’ of the day.  Ie. Breakfast time, diaper time, nap time, clean up time, brush your teeth time etc.  So when we need him to do something we say “do you know what time it is?” and then proceed with whatever needs to be done.  I have to say it is working like a charm.  So when I get home, I say it’s time to clean up… and he gets all excited to help clean.  It’s working so well, he now notices when it starts to get dark outside, he tells me that it’s PJ time.  LOL

3 weeks vs 11 weeks

Thursday, August 30, 2012

I meant to take this picture of Lachlyn when she was 3 weeks old, but forgot to... but I actually love how you can see now by the scale of her body in KC's hands how much they grow in such a short time period.

Going Public

Tuesday, August 28, 2012

I actually have been blogging for about 7 months now.  I just haven't told anybody until today.

I started blogging just to keep a journal.  I wanted to have something online with lots of pictures that maybe some day my kids could look back on and know what our life was like.  I want them to know how much I loved them.  There is also some very personal things about myself that most people don't know, which is why I have hesitated to show this to anyone.  It's hard to admit that your OK with everyone knowing your inner thoughts.  But I'm at a point now that I'm ok with that.

This blog was primarily just about the kids but then I kinda got carried away... I wanted to add DIY projects I've been doing.  Then I thought Style pics would be fun too.  Slowly I started to figure out what I wanted this blog to be.  --Style section is on hold until I can fit into my clothes -forced LOL

I have lots of different blogs I read each day and so I started to think... why am I not sharing this with anyone?  I was nervous of judgment, critique, and criticism.   KC has reminded me that the people who will probably read this blog will primarily be family.  And family won't do that, they love me, and they love our family.  I also got tired of him making fun of me for how much time I spend doing this, for just me to read. So here it is!  I'm sharing our life through my eyes.

Radiation Therapy

Thursday, August 23, 2012

My job has been on my mind for many weeks now.  Tears came to my eyes this morning thinking about how today was Thursday!  Only 4 more days till I go back to work.  I've been off for almost 12 weeks now and let me tell you how fast it went.  Why is that?  I swear when I'm working 3 months seems like it takes forever, but when you're having fun, 3 months fly by.

Don't get me wrong, we have done/experienced A LOT in those 3 months.  Having Lachlyn and seeing her grow so much in this short time.  Taking Rhone to the pool and watching him learn each time to swim and be more confident in the water.  And most of all just being able to spend everyday together just the 4 of us.    It has been such a great time in our lives and I will forever be grateful to God that we were able to both be off for 3 months!   Not everyone gets that.  I know that I was blessed to be given that time and I will cherish this summer forever.

Monday... I knew this day was coming.  I was marking each day off the calendar watching it come sooner and sooner.  But now that it's almost here, I have extreme mixed feelings.

Good Days:
Curable Cancer
On one hand I Love what I do.  I work as a radiation therapist at an outpatient clinic which is located directly across the street from our neighborhood. ( I would recommend this to everyone )  The job is amazing.  It has to be one of the most gratifying jobs out there.  Our patients are usually so grateful to us and give us so much love for helping them live!  Most people are curable, so this time in their life is focused primarily on 'killing every cancer cell in them'  We do that for them.  We see them everyday for 10-30mins each day for approx. 4-7 weeks depending on the type of cancer.  We get to know them.  We get to know their family.  We learn about their grandchildren and what they are going to do each day.  It's fun.  I would say most people with cancer have such a great outlook on life and appreciate the people around them.  It helps me to remember to live each day to the fullest, and to make sure I let my family know how much I love them.

The best moments:

When I can make one of my patients laugh
When I get a hug from a patient because they are grateful for what I do
When we get food or snacks from patients lol
When I see a patient walk for the first time since there diagnosis.  This is the best.
(people often think it's a depressing job, but let me tell you how awesome and uplifting it is to see a patient who came in to our office in a wheel chair because of there tumor and leave walking because we shrank it.)
My husband like to tell people 'I kill cancer'  which make me laugh, but when I really think about it it's true.  I do, or at least I give it my all.  I try everyday to do the best I can because people's lives are in my hands.

 Bad Days:
Terminal cancer

When people get diagnosed with cancer, they have several options for treatment.  One of those options is radiation.  It sounds scary and sad, but the reality is that it is a very uplifting job.  Yes I have bad days.
Every patient is completely different.  They might have the same type of cancer but different size, different location, different stage.  There are so many factors that go into staging cancer.  The bad days are the days when we get patients with terminal disease.  I often work in the Simulator or "Sim" which means I set up peoples' treatment position, do CT scans, find their tumor, and give them tattoos on there skin marking where to direct the beams.  At this stage the patient is new to us.  They are scared.  I see them at there most vulnerable point and I try my hardest to ease their mind and reassure them that they are in good hands.  Trying to make there experience as good as I can possibly make it.  However, I see them in pain and I see why.  It kills me when I do a CT scan and can see how the disease has eaten away at there bones which is causing them so much pain.  These late stage cancers or aggressive cancers are what give me bad days.  After a while of many bad days in a row it can really get to you.  I hate seeing people in pain, and I hate seeing people scared.  It's my job to help them get through this tough time in their life and to hopefully give them hope for the future.

 Healthcare:

Health care is a weird field.  Most people who enter the health care field are people who really want to help the lives of those who are sick.  We go into it with great intentions and don't ever think that our hearts will be hardened.  But they do.  It's sad, but I feel like it's necessary.  There is just no way anyone could work with the sick if you get emotional and overcome by how sad and hard it is.  You wouldn't last.  It's a job.  In my career, I have seen myself get frustrated with being in the health care field because I went in wanting to help people.  I want to spend time with my patients, I want to feel like they are my main priority.  But in reality every health care job is just like other jobs in that they are in the business to make money.   In my current job, we are super busy.  We load up our schedule to the point of not being able to handle it.  We have to squeeze patients in between patients, we have to work faster and harder just to keep up.  We do it because, well, there are a lot of patients who need radiation, and so we 'make' room for them.  But it becomes routine, it becomes patient in, patient out.  No more talking, laughing, getting to know each other.  We have to put the reasons why we love our job on hold in order to do our job faster.  It has taken a toll on me.  I have resented people I work for because of it.  I want to do my job, but I wish it didn't have to be the way it is.  Because of 6 years of dealing with these feelings about work and the added desire to be a stay at home mom, I am in dire need of change.  However, all in all,  when I compare the good and the bad I have to say the really good days outweighs the bad days.  When I look back at the 6 years I've been working I can think of a dozen cases that really made me cry in sadness.  But can think of so many happy moments my job has brought me.  How it has changed me.  How it has opened my heart to the sick and the suffering.   I know that God has a reason for everything.  We may not understand it at that moment, but something good comes out of everything, even cancer.

Monday:
What I keep telling myself

I am rejuvenated and am loving life right now.  I hope this can carry me through working again and help me remember why I love this job.  There are a lot of people out there outside of my family that need my help.  And well, I'm gonna toot my own horn, but I'm really good at my job.  I am a loving caring health care worker who is fast, efficient, and good at what I do.  So although I am bummed to have to leave my growing family for 8 hours each day, I hope that I can make the most of it and help save some more lives.

Today is our 9 Year Anniversary!!

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

Our Story: We meet in Jr. High - I sat in front of him apparently in History class.  I was so shy that I don't remember, but he does.  We knew of each other in High school.  He dated my good friend and later in the middle of our senior year, he asked me to the Valentines dance.  3 years later we married in La Jolla, CA and the rest is history.

I love being a wife.

I have such a amazing husband.  He knows me so well which makes life so much easier.  Well most of the time lol.

He knows how to make me feel better when I am down.  He knows how to make me laugh.  He knows what I don't like doing and do.

We’ve been married for almost 9 years now, and I feel like we are better than ever.

I feel that getting married young can go two ways. You can grow together or grow apart.  We have definitely grown together.  We believe the same things about life, we share the same goals, we put the same things first.

A lot of change since age 21.  And for us, those changes were growning up.  Becoming adults.  Becoming wise.  And we did it together.

We are very different people in ways like... he loves to cook, and I hate to cook.  He hates to shop, and of course I Love to shop.

Our lives have molded into one idea we both share.  I believe this will keep us together forever.  We’ve had our ups and downs but I thank God everyday for giving such a blessing to me.  We have experienced so much in life and it’s been amazing to me that we get stronger with each change in our life.

I am seeing KC in my children and I love it!  It brings tears to my eyes just thinking that if Rhone grows up to be anything like his father, he will be extremely blessed.  He is a great role model.

Being a mom.  I never thought I was capable of so much love. I never thought I would receive so much love.  It brings tears to my eyes thinking how much God loves me.  For the love I feel for my children is so inadequate compared to God loving his children.  I try everyday to think of that.

I hope someday when my children are grown, I can look back and say I loved them to my fullest and that they would know they were my everything.

I hope someday they feel in their hearts how much I love them just as I feel it in my heart.  The joy they gave me, and how much they mean to KC and I.  My heart is filled.  My soul is filled.

I am truly blessed.

Rhone's Quirks

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

 Rhone has the best personality!
If you've been around him at all, you would know that he's a talker.  Non-stop... even when he's eating hahaha. Here's a list of phrases we've heard for the last couple weeks.

"Buzz Fell out the window" - referring to Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story
"Scissors are daangerous" -  yes he got that from us
"Knives are daaangerous"-  yes he got that from us
"I'm sorrry, my fauult"  - says that even when he didn't do anything wrong.
"Daddy, Momma Whatcha sayin?
"That's Sillly" - probably got that from me
"Seat belt" - referring to any belt on anyone or any toy ie. Buzz Lightyears utility belt"
"Poke Eye?" - this one came out of no where, but he holds up his finger and asks us all the time if he can poke Lachlyns eyes, my eyes, his eyes, his dinosaurs eyes.
"I like that" - explains itself

My baby is 2 Months Old!

Tuesday, August 7, 2012

I can not believe Lachlyn is already 2 months old.  Oh how time flies by.

It's a strange feeling for me because she potentially might be my last child.

This means no more (cue the tears) newborn clothes, no more newborn snuggles, no more newborn cuteness.  It's sad.  I was going through her clothes yesterday and putting all the clothes she has already outgrown into a box to be given away.  I was in tears the whole time.

However on the flip side, I LOVE watching her grow.  I love seeing her do new things, holding her head up, laughing (one of my absolute favorites) and seeing her and Rhone interact a little more.

She will always be my little baby and my little princess.

This picture cracks me up... Her Dr. told us to put a banking soda paste on her
scalp to help with her cradle cap.

Her 2 month Check Up:

Weight: 11 lbs, 12oz.  75th Percentile
Height: 24.5in.  99th Percentile
Head: 40cm  79th Percentile

DIY Headband

Monday, August 6, 2012

One of the amazing blogs I follow is Kelly Murray.  She had this tutorial on how to make this 15 min headband out of an old T-Shirt.  I tried it one evening and I love it! It was so simple and her directions are so easy to follow.  http://www.kellimurray.com/category/diyese/

Here is the one I made, just a little bit smaller in each dimension.

And my beautiful model loves it... super comfortable and doesn't leave a mark.

If you REALLY knew me

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I struggle with fear
Fear of having regret
Fear of not being a good enough parent to my kids
Fear of them getting sucked into worldly ideas that they are too good
or too smart to believe in God
Fear of them not knowing the Lord
Fear of dealth
Fear of not being able to protect them at all times
Fear of them getting hurt
Fear of the unknown

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I have wanted to quit and be a stay at home mom since Rhone was born
And that I pray every night and ask God to make that happen for me
However... I am scared to quit because I am really good at what I do
And when you feel like your really good at something, it is hard to give it up
I feel that because of my personality and my struggle with health, I am able to be more simpathetic toward people in need of upthifting
And if I quit, I won't be there for someone else who needs it
However, working in an environment that reminds you to live each day to the fullest, reminds me that my kids are what is most important to me, and that I need to spend as much time with them as I possibly can, because you never know what tomorrow brings

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I am not good at being a friend.

I want to be everything to my friends, but end up falling short because I choose my family over them

I am learning to balance that

You would know that I am a planner

I have tried to plan every step in my life, and have succeeded 1/2 the time

God just keeps reminding me that he's in control, and I'm ok with that

If you REALLY knew me…
You would know that I am a home body

You would know that I like to go out... but I like staying home more

You would know that I love to clean & I love a clean home

You would know that clean sheet night + shower night is one of my favorite nights

You would know that I shower at night

I can't remember the last time I showered in the morning

I am starting to shower early evening with Rhone... time saving trick

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I don't like cooking

You would know that I don't necessarily like to do dishes, but I love the feeling when they're done

You would know that I have a place in my house for everything

If it's not labeled, just ask

You would know that I get seriously stressed out if my home is messy

And with 2 kids and KC and Wabash, it's impossible

You would know that I cringe every time someone walks into my house with shoes on

And this is why I love sandals

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I love to shop

I love the feeling of something new to wear

You would know that I am taking up 3 of the 5 closets in this house

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I pray everyday for my children's salvation

You would know that I pray everyday for KC

You would know that I pray everyday for my childrens health

You would know that I love that I am becoming more comfortable with writing this blog, knowing that people will eventually read it.

If you REALLY knew me…
You would know that I have a tattoo on my left wrist that says "Faith"

I got white ink, so that it would not be noticable to others
and would be a reminder to just me
However... white ink does not stay, it bleeds and looks like a mess years later
I plan on getting it re-done after breastfeeding next year

If you REALLY knew me…

You would know that I am scared that people will judge

But I also love that I am beginning to not care.

You would know that I am trying to work on all of these things

I trust God will help

I trust that he is in control
